Helicopter flying is always fun!
We offer PPL (H)
Theoretical Knowledge Instruction
Flight Training Course
You can complete both or either course with us.
Training is available both in person and partially remotely.
Requirements for the student
Minimum age of 17, legal guardian consent required for persons under 18 years of age.
A valid medical report on a medical class 2 medical condition with an initial medical check-up.
You need a radiotelephone license for the first separate flight (the course is part of the theoretical training).
Course of the training
The theoretical part takes place in the classroom at "NAKOTNE HELIPORT". Part of the study takes the form of lectures and consultations, while part is self-study. Outline of the theoretical part:
- Aviation law,
- General aircraft knowledge,
- Flight planning and performance,
- Human performance and limitations,
- Meteorology,
- Navigation,
- Operating procedures,
- Basics of flight communication.
Practical part
A minimum of 45 flight hours is required to obtain a PPL (H) pilot license. Holders of a valid PPL (A) pilot and helicopter and glider pilots may count 10% of their pilot-in-command in total flight hours to obtain a PPL (H), but not more than 6 hours.

- Airport traffic and air traffic management, precautions and procedures to prevent collisions.
- Helicopter control by external visual orientation.
- Hanging on the spot.
- Taxiing in hang.
- Take-offs and landings usual and with side wind.
- Maximum performance take-offs, landing on limited areas.
- Autorotation (simulation of landing with the engine off).
- Instrument flights.
- Cross country navigations using visual orientation, calculation navigation.
- Emergency procedures.
- Arrivals, departures and flights to controlled airports, procedures
- Communication and phraseology
Completing the course and obtaining a license
The theoretical test is composed of a test at the Civil Aviation Authority. Practical skills will be verified by the Civil Aviation Authority's examiner at NAKOTNE HELIPORT.
Important!
According to the training curriculum, a minimum of 45 flight hours must be completed. However, it is only a prescribed minimum, which does not automatically qualify for a pilot's license!

Frequently asked questions:
-
What is a Private Pilot’s License for Helicopters PPL(H)
A PPL(H) allows you to fly helicopters privately, meaning you can pilot a helicopter for non-commercial purposes. It’s the first step in pursuing a professional helicopter pilot career, although many obtain it purely for recreational flying.
-
What are the prerequisites for starting a PPL(H) course
You must be at least 17 years old and hold a valid Class 2 medical certificate before your first solo flight. No prior flying experience is required to begin the course.
-
What does the PPL(H) training involve?
The training typically includes a minimum of 45 flight hours, of which 25 hours must be dual instruction, and 10 hours must be solo flight. You’ll also need to pass 9 theoretical knowledge exams covering subjects like Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology, and Human Performance.
-
How long does it take to complete the PPL(H)?
The duration varies depending on your availability and weather conditions, but most students complete the course within 6 to 12 months. This can be longer if training part-time.
-
How much does it cost to obtain a PPL(H)?
The cost generally ranges from Eur X to EUR Y, depending on the flight school and the number of additional hours you may need to meet the required standards for the skills test.
-
What type of helicopter will I train in?
Most flight schools offer training in light helicopters such as the Robinson R22 or Cabri G2, which are widely used for PPL(H) courses due to their reliability and suitability for training purposes.
-
What can I do with a PPL(H)?
A PPL(H) allows you to fly helicopters privately with friends and family as passengers. However, it does not permit you to receive payment for piloting. To work as a commercial pilot, you would need to pursue further training for a Commercial Pilot License (CPL(H)).
-
How do I keep my PPL(H) current?
To maintain your PPL(H), you must fly a minimum of 2 hours within the last 12 months and pass an annual proficiency check. If you fail to meet these requirements, you may need additional training.
